Adriana Sanford, dual LL.M., J.D., is a world-renowned award-winning global threats expert, former Fortune 5 regional counsel, author, university professor, humanitarian, and Chilean-American international TV commentator, who appeared regularly as a CNN Español senior analyst on privacy and cyber-related breaking news to 93+ million viewers. She has distinguished herself by educating thousands of executives, thousands of college students, and the public at large on data privacy, insider threats, and complex multijurisdictional legal conflicts. She is well-versed in regulatory matters, data privacy requirements, and industry-specific standards. Her research and scholarly work focus on today’s multijurisdictional privacy and global security challenges that include severe repercussions for non-compliance, such as hefty fines, criminal liability, and possibly even physical danger.
Sanford is affiliated with the American Program Bureau and has delivered keynote addresses at 150+ industry conferences. Her presentations on serious topics are captivating and impactful and her engagement spans a wide spectrum of audiences and domains that include Fortune 1000 professionals, senior security experts, financial leaders, and foreign government officials. Sanford's contributions range from delivering a keynote address to hundreds of GCs and in-house legal counsel of Fortune 1000 companies at the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) SuperConference in Chicago and to hundreds of CISOs, CIOs, CTOs, and security professionals at ISACA's annual Latin American conference in Mexico City. Sanford is the lead author of two Pearson books on global threats, "A Guide to Surviving Storms, Challenges, and Ethical Risks" and "Ética empresarial: Una perspectiva global” (Business Ethics: A Global Perspective). These books were adopted by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) to commemorate their centennial celebration and made available to ISACA members worldwide. Book chapters include the Guide for CEOs and Board of Directors on Multijurisdictional Legal Issues in SPRINGER's "Women in Security: Changing the Face of Technology and Innovation," which is part of the Springer Women in Engineering and Science series and can be found at the RSA and ISC2 bookstores. Her articles have been published in the International Enforcement Law Reporter, National Law Journal, Inside Supply Management Magazine, and ISM Forward Scan, an exclusive product for supply leaders in the ISM Corporate Program. Sanford has held several academic roles including Dean's Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University Law Center; Senior Fellow for the Center of Intelligence & National Security (CINS) at University of Oklahoma; and Lincoln Professor of Global Corporate Compliance & Ethics at Arizona State University. She has also provided courses on law, management, data privacy laws, and business ethics to thousands of graduate and undergraduate students in bilingual context in the United States and abroad. Her on-air radio roles included serving as the Weekly Ethics Expert for Money Radio and as a Senior International Correspondent for Manufacturing Talk Radio, engaging with 1.5 million manufacturers throughout the United States. Sanford also served as the Executive Producer and Co-Host for an NBC News Affiliate on the "Beyond the Curve Show," engaging listeners on Sunday mornings.
Academically, Sanford holds multiple law degrees from both Georgetown University Law Center and Notre Dame Law School and is fluent in four languages —English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French— maintaining legal proficiency in three of these languages, as well as basic knowledge of Italian. She was honored with the inaugural CSWY Cybersecurity Woman Law & Privacy Professional of the Year Award, featured in Top Cyber News Magazine, and served as an advisor for the World Economic Forum's Partnering Against Corruption Initiative. She is an attorney with the Chilean law firm Puga Ortiz Abogados (remotely), serves as a Senior Fellow and adjunct professor at Claremont Graduate University and as an ambassador for the Netherland nonprofit Inspire2Live. Recently, she served as the Executive Director of ISSA-Los Angeles, which was honored with the 2023 ISSA Chapter of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding achievements during her leadership.
